Brother and Sister, Collin and Lauren

by Harlan, June 12, 2014

New Jersey isn’t all oil refineries and mobsters, and its nickname, the Garden State, isn’t meant to be ironic. I know this because I live in a nice location in central New Jersey, with parks and preserved land nearby. And I was further reminded of the state’s beauty as I drove to White Oak Park in Branchburg to scope out the location for a photography session with Collin and Lauren, two siblings who would be in town for a festive weekend.

White Oak Park contains baseball fields, a pond with a fountain, a pavilion with picnic tables and walking trails. It had the potential to provide a great setting for a fun shoot with a brother and sister.

For the photographs Lauren was looking for a classic black-and-white look. I enlisted the assistance of my friend Elliot, who was the friend and co-worker who convinced my to buy my first single lens reflex camera man years ago, and the four of us met at the park on a day that had the potential to be a rain-out.

Thankfully, the rain held off, and we spent an hour or so using some of the best features of White Oak Park.

I don’t do family photo shoots very often, but I’m willing to entertain an occasional client. Contact me if you’re interested in putting together a portraiture session.
